I often talk about the impact of creating a visual language and even a world in photos. When an artist manages to create an entire world in her photos — a world you know what to expect from, yet it keeps surprising you — the works become alive.

That’s what I felt when I first came by Kacie Conaboy’s work. After seeing two or three photos, I knew exactly what to expect, but each photo caught me by surprise again… and I wanted to see more.

The powerful visual language in Kacie’s work, which is focused on the interaction between people and objects, makes a strong impression that stays with you long after you moved to the next photo.

In her own words: “We use Things every day without giving a great deal of thought about where they came from or how they are made.  Yet, a single object can mean so much to a person.  Our grandmother’s earrings or our father’s shoes.  We are inundated with Things we use, Things we care about and Things we throw away.  Things define us, and our lives.  Things mark our presence and our deaths.”

This work was the one that opened the Re:Cover Project. It’s a visualizing of a song I cannot get out my head for quite some time - a song dedicated to Gilad Shalit who is being held in captive since June 2006. I hope that someday soon Gilad will be back home with his family and this beautiful song will become… just another beautiful song.
